Artist / Illustrator / Interior Designer
Laura is a painter, illustrator, and interior designer who grew up in a small Texas rice farming town. Growing up out in the country instilled a love and respect of nature. Her creative path was fostered as she created floorpans from freshly mown grass and took oil painting classes alongside her father. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Tech University in Interior Design, and worked in architecture in New Orleans and Houston with corporate and healthcare clients. She transitioned into teaching art and design, first at the University of Houston and later at Katy High School. Painting en plein air, or "in nature”, challenges her and brings joy. Awards include the 2024 Oil Painters of America National Juried Salon, 2nd place at Untamed Wine Estates Plein Air Competition, People's Choice at the Good Art Company Fredericksburg Plein Air competition, First Place and People's Choice awards at Katy Contemporary Arts Museum, and Special Merit at Light Space & Time Gallery, She received a painting grant to study in Spain, and has studied under Mark Boedges, Linda Glover Gooch, Patrick Saunders, and Diane Pike. After an overseas assignment with her husband in the Middle East, she now lives and paints in the Texas hill country. She is an associate member of Oil Painters of America and the Outdoor Painters Society.
